MOULTRIE — Rebecca Lynn Hurst became the bride of John Clifton Peters Jr., on Oct. 6, 2012, at First Presbyterian Church in Moultrie with the Rev. Charles McDowell and the Rev. Richard W Carr III officiating.
The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Millard Hurst Jr. of Barney. Her grandparents are Hattie Jean Burton of Barney and the late Clifford H. Burton and the late Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Millard Hurst Sr.
The groom’s parents are Mr. and Mrs. John Clifton Peters Sr. of Moultrie. His grandparents are the Hon. William Cooper Peters of Moultrie and the late Ellen Brown Peters and the late Dr. and Mrs. Eugene Monroe Flowers.
Providing the wedding music was aunt of the bride, Elizabeth Hurst Johnston of Doha, Qatar, and the organist was Kathy Wright of Moultrie.
The photographers were Gandy Photographers; the ceremony director was JereAnna Hargett and the reception director was Susanna Dover of Pink Bee Events; and catering was by Carters Catering.
The matron of honor was the bride’s sister, Amy Hurst Cowart of Valdosta. The maid of honor was Lauren Elizabeth Johnston, cousin of the bride, of Atlanta. The bridesmaids were Taylor Leigh Johnston, cousin of the bride, of Washington D.C.; Nikki Young Thomas of Hahira; Kathryn Fletcher Brock of Savannah; and Anne Peters Edwards, sister of the groom, of Decatur.
The flower girls were Jenny Vazquez-Cruz of Barney, and Emma Jewel Thomas and Ellee Elizabeth Thomas, both of Hahira.
The best man was the father of the groom, Click Peters, of Moultrie. The groomsmen were Asa Charles Dickerson, John Mark Mobley III, John Heath Herndon, and John Benjamin Alderman Jr., all of Moultrie; and Adam Millard Hurst, brother of the bride, of Atlanta.
The ring bearers were nephew of the bride, Zachary Richard Cowart Jr., of Valdosta and nephews of the groom, Jason Clark Edwards, John Corey Edwards, and Jack Cooper Edwards, all of Decatur.
The program attendants were David Vazquez-Cruz and Victor Vazquez-Cruz, both of Barney.
Given in marriage by her father, the bride wore a candlelight, Vera Wang strapless mermaid gown. The gown’s elegant lay was created by full-length tiers of English net, tissue organza, and satin-faced organza. She wore her sister’s cathedral-length veil. As a traditional bride, she wore her great-aunt’s dinner ring as her “old,” her “new” was her dress, her “borrowed” was her veil, and her “blue” was her garter. She carried a bouquet of garden roses to meet her groom.
The bride’s parents hosted everyone to a reception at the Colquitt County Arts Center after the ceremony. Guests enjoyed dinner and cocktail music by Jimmy Norris and, later, dancing to the tunes of The Bushmen. The bride’s cake was a round, three-tier pound cake with buttercream icing, and gum paste peonies cascading down each tier. The groom’s cake was chocolate cake with chocolate icing, made to replicate the groom’s boykin spaniel, Jay Peters. The couple left in an antique yellow Cadillac convertible. After a honeymoon to Rome, Florence, Milan, and Lake Como, Italy, the couple resides in Moultrie.
