Walker, Whittle

SUMNER — Jessica Deanne Walker of Sumner and Van Jackson Whittle were united in marriage April 28, 2012 at New Union Baptist Church in Doles. The bride is the daughter of Dean Powell and the late C. L. Powell of Sylvester. The groom is the son of the late Betty Whittle of Tifton.
The traditional double ring ceremony took place in the little white country church that was built in the 1800’s and pastored by the bride’s uncle, Preacher Averette since 1956. The church was adorned in white tulle and fresh cut flowers and seated 100 people. Kristy Franks, pianist and soloist of Tifton performed “Holy Ground” and “The Rose.”
Best man was James Whittle of Griffin, son of the groom. Ushers were Lee Whittle of Tifton and Wayne Whittle of Brookfield, brother’s of the groom. The bride’s daughter, Morgan Walker of Sumner, served as junior bridesmaid.
The bride, escorted by her brother’s, Len and Craig Powell, wore a traditional wedding gown of ivory accented with dainty pearls and crystals and a cathedral train. She carried a bouquet of Spring flowers. For something old, she wore a pearl necklace belonging to her late grandmother, Mrs. Jessie Bell Shiver. Her wedding attire was something new, for something borrowed she wore a pair of earrings belonging to her mother, Dean Powell and something blue was the ribbon in her garter.
An outdoor reception followed the ceremony at the church. Entertainment was provided by the gospel group “Three 4 One.”
Following a honeymoon trip too St. Augustine, Fla., the couple resides in Sumner. The groom is and independent distributor for Flowers Baking Co. and the bride is employed with Southwest Georgia Bank.
