The Brandons, the Rev. Eugene, Sr. and Julia Sherman Brandon, celebrated their 60th Diamond Wedding Anniversary with a dinner celebration given by their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren on June 16, 2012, at the James H. Rainwater Conference Center in Valdosta.
The Rev. and Mrs. Brandon were married on Saturday, June 14, 1952, in Valdosta, Georgia. The Rev. Brandon is the assistant pastor of St. James Missionary Baptist Church, Valdosta.
They are the parents of six children, Mable Fugghett, Eugene Brandon Jr., the late Larry Brandon, Janice Binford and husband Randolph II, Melvin Brandon and wife Debra, Melinda Davis and husband Norman I.
The honorees also have 13 grandchildren, Timothy Fugghett and wife Christine, Marcus Fugghett and wife Sabrina, Kimberly Brandon, Eric Grant, Melanie Brandon Wilder and husband Juan Sr., Randolph Binford III, Stacey Binford, Natoya Brandon, Malinda Brandon, Sharon Maxwell Anderson and husband Jason, Ebony Maxwell, Norman Davis II and Nigil Davis.
And nine great-grandchildren, Julia Alexis Fugghett, Christopher Fugghett, Jasmine Santos, Juan Wilder Jr., Brandon Lee Meriweather, Aubrey Marie Anderson, Keyon Grant, Kianna Grant and Kayla Grant.
More than 100 family members and friends gathered to help celebrate and share the wonderful memories for this special occasion. The room was beautifully decorated by Lynette Council of Worry Free Weddings and Special Occasions. The room was adorned in lavender, pink and white floral arrangements, lavender and pink table overlays and ferns, with each chair covered in white satin and accented with a lavender bow. Miniature candles illuminated each table.
The welcome and occasion were respectively given by their grandsons, Marcus and Timothy Fugghett. A proclamation was presented by Councilman-at-Large Ben Norton on behalf of Mayor John Gayle and the City of Valdosta, proclaiming Saturday, June 16, 2012, as Rev. Eugene, Sr. and Julia Sherman Brandon Day in the City of Valdosta. The Rev. and Mrs. Brandon also received a Congratulatory 60th Anniversary Greeting from President and Mrs. Barack Obama, Washington, D.C. This award was presented to them by their daughter, Mrs. Janice Brandon Binford on behalf of the President and First Lady.
Elder Charlie B. Jackson Jr., pastor of Mount Calvary Holiness Church in Tifton, Georgia, was the anniversary keynote speaker as he was for the 50th anniversary celebration. Musical solos were performed by their daughter, Evangelist Mable Fugghett, and family friend, Mary Lee Sherman.
Minister Juan Wilder Sr., grandson, prayed the anniversary prayer and dinner grace. Guests enjoyed a dinner buffet and topped it off with the “Perfect Love” anniversary cake designed by Mary L. Johnson, all while enjoying the special music played by disc jockey, Jimmy Ingram. Grandsons Norman II and Nigil circulated the microphone throughout the room for guests to express their well wishes concluding with an anniversary toast by all attending.
The Rev. Brandon concluded the celebration with the acknowledgements and the closing remarks.
