The bride-elect is the granddaughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Otwell Barker of Gainesville, Ga., and the late Dr. and Mrs. Thomas Kay Young of Columbia, Tenn. A Valdosta High School graduate, the future bride received her Bachelor of Arts degree in English Literature from the College of Charleston in South Carolina. She is employed by the PNC Financial Services Group in Atlanta as the Client and Community Relations Coordinator.

The groom-elect is the grandson of the late Mr. and Mrs. Gouverneur Elwes Smith of Alexandria, Va., and the late Mr. and Mrs. Patrick Clifford Graney, Jr. of Mt. Hope, West Va. He is a graduate of Deerfield Academy in Deerfield, Mass., and received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Government and Russian Studies from the University of Virginia. He received his Master of Business Administration degree from the Darden School of Business at the University of Virginia. He is employed by Scott Madden, a general management consulting firm in Atlanta.

The future groom graduated from Antonian College Preparatory in San Antonio, TX, and from The University of Texas at San Antonio Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science in Biology. He received his Doctorate of Medicine from The University of Texas Southwestern Medical School in Dallas, and completed Post Graduate Training in General Surgery at The University of Florida Shands Medical Center in Jacksonville and a Vascular Surgery Fellowship at The University of Maryland Medical Systems in Baltimore, MD. He served proudly in The United States Air Force and separated at the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. He is an Assistant Professor of Surgery at Mercer Medical School, and has worked at the Savannah Vascular and Cardiac Institute in Savannah since 2003 as a vascular surgeon.
