VALDOSTA — Only a short walk from Valdosta State University in the Brookwood North Historic District sits the 1940s bungalow-style home of Art Professor Michael Schmidt and his wife, Nancy.
The two-bedroom, two-bath home at 1803 Williams St. was purchased by Schmidt in May 2002, completely repainted, remodeled and decorated with a contemporary flair with his art work, as well as that of his colleagues and friends.
The 1,815-square-foot home is deceivingly large with a 20x13 living room, a 20x16 master suite and a 23x14 loft bedroom, the envy of any teen-ager who wants his own space.
The showpiece of the home, however, is the kitchen with its sparkling marble floors, birch-front cabinets, subway tile backsplash, stainless steel appliances which will stay with the home, and a breakfast nook/sitting area which opens up the space for entertaining guests while cooking a gourmet meal (or having it catered from your favorite restaurant).
Track lighting, which is an art work in itself, sheds lots of light on this immaculate home, which also features crown molding and hardwood, ceramic and Congoleum flooring.
Other highlights of the home include glass built-ins in the dining room and a walk-in closet in the huge master suite. A gas fireplace in the living room can easily be converted into a wood-burning one. Just imagine cozying up to that wonderful heat during the cool days ahead and watching its flames flicker.
